The Department of Sport Analytics offers an online master’s degree in Sport Analytics, as well as an online Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) in Sport Analytics.
The 36-credit Master of Science degree in Sport Analytics requires the completion of 10 required core courses, which cover basic and advanced visualization skills, coding in R and Python, database and SQL usage, linear regression, and machine learning techniques using data directly related to either the team/player or business side of the sport industry. In addition to the required courses, students choose two elective courses which concentrate on analytics applications related to collective bargaining agreements for various sports. Each course in the degree is 8-weeks in length and delivered online in an asynchronous format.
The 12-credit Certificate of Advance Study in Sport Analytics explores different types of statistics used for analysis of player/team performance and business performance across different sports and leagues and become proficient in both visualizing and analyzing sport data. Coursework covers specific focus areas of sport analytics statistics and methods, visualization tools, programming in R and Python, linear regression and econometric techniques, and machine learning tools.
The CAS in sport analytics has four courses (12-credits total), each highlighting a specific aspect of the necessary employment qualifications, including visualization, coding and basic data modeling. Program faculty are leaders in the fields of sport analytics, economics, and data visualization and modeling who have the mathematical and analytical backgrounds-and industry connections-that advantage students in their classes and beyond. Each eight-week course is delivered asynchronously online.
