Overview:
Information technology management has become critical to most, if not all professions and organizations. This 15-credit graduate certificate program in Information Technology Management (ITM) offers students with a broad range of disciplinary backgrounds a flexible way to gain foundational skills in information technology management and qualify for a possible subsequent entry into a MS in either Information Management (IM), Enterprise Data Systems (EDS) or Applied Data Science (ADS). With this program, students can expand their career options and gain a competitive advantage as they pursue career opportunities in business, government, or not-for-profit organizations. The program is available to full-time, part-time, and online students, and can be completed at the student’s own pace through evening, short courses, and online course delivery.
The certificate stands alone; however, after successful completion, students have the option of continuing to earn a Master’s degree in Information Management, Enterprise Data Systems, or Applied Data Science.
Learning Outcomes:
As a result of the program, students will be able to:
- Integrate technical and solution development concepts with the principles of management, strategy, and financial analysis; apply these concepts in the analysis of management case studies and problems.
- Describe a broad overview of the major practice areas in data collection, organization, and analysis.
- Develop and deliver professional communications in the field.
- Demonstrate leadership, ethics, and effective collaboration skills.
- Find, organize, manage, evaluate, and use information resources critically and effectively for the solution of professional problems.

Curriculum
This certificate of advanced study in Information Technology Management (ITM) requires the completion of 15 credit hours. The 15 credit hours include a primary core composed of 3 required course credits, and 12 elective credits. All courses are three credits unless specified otherwise.
I. Primary Core (3 credits)
Students wanting a general preparation in both information management and technology may wish to take all three introductory courses, substituting for an elective below
II. Electives (12 credits)
Because Information Technology Management is such a dynamically changing field, the CAS-ITM program committee (which includes the Program Director and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs) will maintain two lists of approved electives. These lists will be kept online in a publically viewable location (i.e.: the course catalog and our own website), and will be updated by May 1 each year.
Earn a Master’s Degree
Participants in the CAS-ITM have the option of applying these graduate credits toward a master’s degree offered at the iSchool. All 15 credits completed for the certificate can be included in the 42-credit requirement Master of Science in Information Management and selective credits may be applied to the 36-credit Master of Science in Enterprise Data Systems, or the 36-credit Master of Science in Applied Data Science.
