Degree Requirements:
A longstanding and popular joint degree exists between the Department of Public Administration of the Maxwell School for Citizenship and Public Affairs and Syracuse University’s College of Law. Students prepare for a career at the nexus of law and public administration with the joint Juris Doctor (JD) and Master of Public Administration (MPA) JD/MPA degree.
Students must apply and be admitted to both programs separately and will complete the entire first year in the College of Law prior to matriculation into the MPA degree. Due to the calendar nature of the MPA program, this challenging joint degree, one of the oldest of its kind anywhere, can be completed in three years alongside the JD degree.
Students complete twenty-five credits of Maxwell School coursework. This includes the core quantitative, management, and budgeting requirements for the MPA degree, as well as a unique capstone course focused on regulatory law and policy issues.
