Process Automation, CAS


This CAS is designed to educate students to plan, design, and deliver end-to-end integrated automation solutions using functional robotic process automation (RPA) capabilities and a wide range of cognitive toolkit components, including machine learning, natural language processing, AI, and intelligent virtual assistants. Students will learn to develop an enterprise automation strategy and governance structure, identifying and prioritizing work domains where innovative applications can maximize the creation and capture of business value. Students will learn to use their skills ethically and responsibly, with sensitivity to the wider implications of automation for the future of work.

The CAS in Process Automation comprises of one required course and two focus areas in which students select four additional courses from, which offer a comprehensive set of advanced skills in Functional Process Automation and Intelligent Process Automation. It is designed to equip students with the skills necessary for advanced technology jobs and careers.

The CAS is offered on campus and can be completed as a full-time or part-time student. The CAS is available to those with or without prior experience in the information technology field. Applicants may be currently working in a related field, or they may be interested in making a career change into the cloud computing field. The certificate also provides an opportunity for professional development and serves as a foundation for career advancement.

Primary Core (3 credits)


Secondary Focus Areas (12 credits)


Students choose the remainder of their classes from one focus area below.  Each focus area has one required class for 3 credits, and a list of electives from which students need to choose an additional three classes, or 9 credits, from.  Pre-requisites will be enforced.

Functional Automation


Students are required to complete one course in this focus area: IST675: Functional Process Automation.  The remainder of the classes come from the list of electives.

Intelligent Automation


Students are required to complete one course in this focus area: IST783: Intelligent Process Automation.  The remainder of the classes come from the list of electives.
