This program prepares graduates for careers in teaching content to students in grades 7-12 and in students with disabilities (all grades) to serve an increasingly diverse student population. Students select a major within the College of Arts and Sciences in either Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, English and Textual Studies, History, Mathematics, or Physics. Students develop an inclusive and anti-racist education philosophy and pedagogy while also learning to deploy digital pedagogical techniques. Students also take professional courses on teaching and learning that integrate within them material on children with and without disabilities who come from diverse cultural backgrounds. Supervised field experiences take place throughout the program within a variety of Syracuse-area settings. Upon program completion, students will be recommended for certification in the applicable content area (grades 7-12) and Students with Disabilities (All Grades).
Students earn a B.S. degree in Inclusive Adolescent Education. To earn certification, they must also declare a liberal arts major in one of the following the areas:
A total of 126-135 credits is required. The variance in credit is determined by the liberal arts major. The degree for Inclusive Adolescent Education requires 63 credits within the School of Education. Successful completion of certification examinations, an application and a background check are also required for New York State teacher certification.

Professional Education Courses
Liberal Arts Requirements
Students must choose a liberal arts degree to complete this degree. Degree options are listed below.
Two Courses in English (0-6 credits)
Two courses in English (ENG) any level, Literature (LIT) any level, or Writing (WRT) 300 level or above. Students can also take WRT 255 to fulfill three credits of this requirement.
Note: Students that choose a liberal arts degree in English and Textual Studies satisfy this requirement with their BA degree.
One Course in Humanities or Social Science (0-3 credits)
Students can fulfill this requirement by taking a course in one of the following areas: AAS, ANT, ECN, GEO (except physical), HIS, PST, PSC, PSY, MAX, or SOC.
Note: Students that choose a liberal arts degree in History satisfy this requirement with their BA degree.
One Course in History (0-3 credits)
Note: Students that choose a liberal arts degree in History satisfy this requirement with their BA degree.
Two Courses in Mathematics (0-6 credits)
Note: Students that choose a liberal arts degree in English and Textual Studies or History must take MAT 117 and MAT 118 to satisfy this requirement.
Note: Students that choose a liberal arts degree in Biology, Chemistry or Mathematics satisfy this requirement with their B.A. degree.
Note: Students that choose a liberal arts degree in Earth Science satisfy three credits of this requirement with their B.A. degree by taking MAT 194 .
Note: Students that choose a liberal arts degree in Physics satisfy this requirement with their B.A. degree by taking MAT 295 and MAT 296 .
Two Courses in Science (0-6 credits)
Students must take science from any of the following areas: AST, BIO, CHE, EAR, GEO (physical), NEU, PHY, and SCI.
Note: Students that choose a liberal arts degree in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science or Physics satisfy this requirement with their B.A. degree.
One Course in Speech Communication (0-3 credits)
Note: Students in the English and Textual Studies, B.A. are required to take one speech communication course from the list below. All other majors do not take one of these courses.
Liberal Arts Major (30-50 credits)
Students must declare a liberal arts major in Arts & Sciences from the list below:
Liberal Arts Electives (0-3 credits)
Based on the liberal arts major that students choose they will have between 0-3 credits of electives in Arts & Sciences.
Total credits required for degree completion = 126-135
