The minor in the History of Architecture explores the history of the built environment. It also provides you with a rich and nuanced understanding of how humanity has interacted with the planet by constructing buildings and cities, transforming the landscape, under different social, political, technological and economic circumstances. The research and teaching specialties of the history of architecture faculty include the architecture of the Middle Ages; sixteenth, seventeenth, and twentieth century Italian architecture; sixteenth to eighteenth century French architecture; the global Baroque; European architecture of the long eighteenth century; European Modernism; South, Southeast, and East Asian architecture; Medievalism; colonial architecture; and the history of urbanism.

Students have the exciting opportunity to complete the BA in the History of Architecture and a minor in Architecture at the School of Architecture. 

Minors in the History of Architecture are also encouraged to take a foreign language and to study abroad, especially in London and Florence.

Students have access to the architectural history-related collections of the Syracuse University Art Museum, Special Collections Research Center, and Light Work at SU, and the F. Franklin Moon Library at SUNY ESF.
