Major Requirements

The B.A. in Liberal Studies provides a general education in the areas of humanities, social sciences, mathematics, and natural sciences. Offered under the auspices of The College of Arts and Sciences, Syracuse University’s founding college, the degree provides the opportunity to develop the skills and resources that today’s employers want. Students earning the bachelor of liberal studies degree must complete a minimum of 30 credit hours of Syracuse University coursework while enrolled as a part-time student at the College of Professional Studies.

Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree in this major requires a minimum of 120 credits, 96 of which must be Arts and Sciences|Maxwell credits, completion of the Liberal Arts Core requirements, and the requirements for this major that are listed below.

Major Depth Requirements - 18 Credits provided by the successful completion of 9 Upper Division credits (300 +) in each of any TWO of the following three areas: 

• Humanities Division   
• Natural Sciences and Mathematics Division   
• Social Sciences Division   

(NOTE: Coursework used for completion of the Depth Requirements may not be shared with (that is, count toward the completion of) the Liberal Arts Core Divisional Requirements of the Liberal Arts Core.
