Overview:

The Cybersecurity Studies Minor provides students with a comprehensive understanding of cybersecurity concepts, technologies, policies, and related issues, along with an examination of modern challenges and their countermeasures.
The program is designed for students from all majors at Syracuse University, aiming to enhance both their academic and professional paths with cybersecurity knowledge and skills. it requires no prior technical experience, making it accessible to a broad range of students.

Student Learning Outcomes


  1. Identify and analyze security properties, technologies, policies, and current issues in cybersecurity
  2. Examine security challenges and vulnerabilities in real-life applications and propose possible countermeasures
  3. Develop effective professional communication skills

Curriculum Overview


This minor requires 18 credits.  Students must complete 12 credits of required courses and 6 additional credits of electives. At least 12 credits must be at the 300-level or above. 

Elective Courses: 6 credits


Students must select 2 courses, or 6 credits, from the list below.  If a selected topics course (IST300/IST400), internship (IST471) or independent study (IST490) is selected, it must have a focus in cybersecurity in order to count towards the minor.  Other relevant cybersecurity courses offered at SU may be counted as electives for the minor, and students must have the course approved by petition prior to registration.
