Description
Syracuse University’s MFA in Illustration is committed to advancing the next generation of Illustrators. As part of a School of Art within a University, our approach is research-oriented and cross-disciplinary, emphasizing inquiry, authorship, and criticality. Students will study and experiment, expanding their boundaries and modes of expression. We encourage our illustration graduate students to create with global awareness, exploring intellectual and creative pursuits to better the world.

Admission: BFA in Illustration or related art subject

Student Learning Outcomes
After completing the Illustration MFA program, students will be able to:
1. Select focused and relevant research topics and conduct research from both primary and secondary sources
2. Express unique points of view, anchored in research and articulated in writing
3. Develop a body of visual work that is personally meaningful and distinct in its appearance and expression
4. Demonstrate knowledge of their chosen professional arena and how to navigate their prospects
5. Demonstrate innovation and entrepreneurship as ethically aware art professionals

Studio electives: 27 credits
Courses listed below; students can also choose from existing Illustration and Studio Arts courses Academic Electives: 12 credits
Any art history or related academics, such as classes in HOA, AIC, or CRS, 500-level or above.
